‘Terrible, terrible idea’: McDonald’s India’s latest ‘love story’ ad doesn’t go down well with netizens

The ad is a part of McDonald’s latest campaign marketing McVeggie meals for Rs 179.

McDonald’s India’s latest advertisement showing a customer trying to woo a woman staff member of the outlet isn’t winning the approval of netizens who slammed the fast-food giant for objectifying their employees.

The ad shows a man ordering a McVeggie meal from a woman staff member and they both smile at each other. While he is eating, he steals glances at the employee and is again seen standing in the queue for ordering again. When a male manager asks him to place his order, he refuses to move to another counter and is content with standing in the queue.

Sometimes, the greatest love stories start with the tiniest things – a glance, a smile, a meal. Watch this unusual date and find out how a meal can give you #MoreForLess at just Rs.179! We warn you, there’s gonna be a lot of blushing. Visit a McDonald’s near you and get McVeggie Meals @ Rs.179,” says the caption of the video posted by McDonald’s India on Twitter.

Many netizens found the ad in bad taste and said it could lead to unwanted advances and harassment of employees.

“This will, of course, lead to your team members getting harassed. May want to think this campaign through a bit,” a user commented. “Oh this was a terrible terrible idea,” said another.
“This is outrageous and disgusting beyond words. 1. You are inviting your customers to hit on your employees. 2. Creating potentially unsafe workplace for your female employees. 3. Objectifying your female staff for profit by suggesting your customers can flirt and find a date here,” posted a third.
